If, by some wild chance, that molecule happens to be DNA, and that part of the DNA happened to have two cysteine residues next to each other, then the DNA will end up pretty messed up at that point, and if this dimer in the DNA happens to cause a mutation, and if that mutation happens to be bad ( you see where this is going ), then death or some other pathology can result ( please note that death and pathologies can result from a lot of other molecular bombardment mishaps, but this is a popular one ).
